'Video denigrates same-sex households' and other Tuesday midday news briefs

We hear so much from the opposition that they are being attacking for supposedly simply believing that marriage should be confined to one man and one woman and that the raising of children should be confined to that sole dynamic. It's difficult for us to demonstrate how many times those expressing that belief cross the line into the realm of attacking our families. Ironically enough, this video does it for us. Now there is nothing wrong with writing a book which talks about a mother/father dynamic when it comes to marriage and the raising of children. Where I seriously draw the line is when the author feels the need to disrespect - however slightly - same-sex families. These folks need to recognize that while they have every right to express their opinion when it comes to marriage and the raising of children, if their expressed opinion attacks or disrespects same-sex households in any way, they shouldn't expect us to be silent. We love our families and our children, too.

Virginia Republicans choose anti-gay pastor as Lt. Governor nominee

The Republican Party just chose THIS GUY to be their nominee for Lt. Governor:

Jackson made a brief, very ridiculous mention against the lgbt community in the above video. In interviews, he has made more negative comments about us:

Their minds are perverted, they’re frankly very sick people psychologically, mentally and emotionally and they see everything through the lens of homosexuality. When they talk about love they’re not talking about love, they’re talking about homosexual sex. So they can’t see clearly. Jesus said ‘when the eye is dark the body is full of darkness.’ Let me come back to this whole issue of their using the black community because here again some of the most vicious attacks ever leveled against any black conservative or black Christian for that matter has come out of the homosexual community.

As I understand it, Virginia Democrats have yet to name their lt. governor nominee. Probably because so many of them fainted with delirious glee over who the Republicans chose to put up against their prospective nominee.

Know Your LGBT History - Lesbian and gay clubs of the 1950s

Why am I posting this video? Because it reminds me of why I don't go to gay clubs now. Too loud, too noisy, and hard to connect with people. And I would kill for at least one song to be slow so that I can dance cheek-to-cheek with someone. Sometimes it's good to crave intimacy with no sexual contact. It seems that the clubs back then were much superior to the ones now.

Why is Christianity getting a bad rep? Because of this . . .

Unbelievable. A day after smearing gay men with an ugly tweet about the Boy Scouts and pedophilia, Liberty Counsel member and Liberty University Dean (yeah, I know!) Matt Barber has the audacity to talk about how marriage equality is from Satan and is a way that government is "shaking its fist" at God.

I doubt Satan has anything to do with marriage equality. If you ask me, I think he was too busy getting Barber to post that nasty tweet.

'Christian' conservative spokesman posts nasty homophobic cartoon

This absolutely vindictive cartoon is courtesy of Liberty Counsel member Matt Barber. The sad irony is that this is the same guy who had the nerve to pen a "I don't hate you, just your lifestyle" letter.

I know from which I speak. I am no better than you. I, too, once lived a lifestyle of sexual sin. Not homosexual sin, but sexual sin nonetheless. As a young man I did not treat God’s daughters as He intended and, instead, engaged in a lifestyle of selfish womanizing and fornication.

The wages of sin in my life was death – spiritual and emotional death. I was on your same path. But by His grace, I was offered and accepted “the free gift of God.” I, instead, was saved and given “eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Do I still struggle with sin? Of course. Every day. We all do. We are fallen. We are sinners. Still, Christ’s gift to me was forgiveness, redemption and life everlasting. My friend, that gift is available to you as well.

Is this hypocrite for real? What Barber did by tweeting that awful cartoon is no different than what racists to do African-Americans:

Or what anti-Semites do to people of the Jewish faith:

I think Matt Barber needs to stop worrying about gays and read his Bible again. Apparently he is so consumed about the so-called sin of homosexuality that he seems to have forgotten the one about bearing false witness against one's neighbor.

It's people like Barber - two-faced people who talk about how they have Jesus' love with one face while bashing their neighbor with the other - who do more harm to Christianity. Barber's tweet is something to remember the next time he, Tony Perkins, and the rest of the religious right whine to the press about "anti-Christian persecution" by gays.

Minnesota makes number 12!

Congratulations, Minnesota!
Minnesota will become the 12th state in the country, plus DC, to allow same-sex couples to marry, following a 37-30 vote of the state’s Senate on Monday.

Gov. Mark Dayton is expected to sign the bill at 5 p.m. Central Time Tuesday. The bill, passed by the House last week, will take effect Aug. 1 — the same day Rhode Island’s marriage equality law takes effect.

The state’s sole out gay senator, Sen. Scott Dibble, spoke in support of the bill he had backed.

Of the legislature’s prior decision to push forward the vote on a constitutional amendment banning gay couples from marriage, “I felt excluded,” he says of that decision. He added, though, “In an odd way, I’m kind of grateful, because we had an amazing conversations, Minnesotans,” that he said led to Monday’s vote for marriage equality.

“Today, we have the power, the awesome, humbling power, to make dreams come true, he said. “We will be removing barriers to the full joy life has to offer.” Of himself and his husband, Richard, whom he married in California in 2008, he says, “I’ve met the person I can’t live without.”

See the rest of the article and more pictures at Buzzfeed and just to get a glimpse of what Minnesota said "no" to, remember this testimony below?

It's hard to believe once upon a time in certain places, testimony like the above would have doomed marriage equality.

Online gay booklet cruises to over 18,000 reads, underground success

COLUMBIA—While not on the radar of the mainstream lgbt media, an online booklet detailing how religious right groups spread anti-gay propaganda has quietly grabbed many readers and status as one of the best books that many in the community hasn’t heard of yet.

How They See Us: Unmasking the Religious Right War on Gay America was published on Scribd by South Carolina blogger and gay activist Alvin McEwen in January.  Since that time, the booklet has quietly drawn over 18,000 readers, making it one of the top 10 political books on Scribd.

McEwen credits the success to how he and other supporters consistently publicized the booklet by either embedding it on their blogs or tweeting about it on a daily and weekly basis, thus drawing in readers.

“I believe that if you really want a project to be successful, you have to work on gaining that success tooth-and-nail,” McEwen said. “Luckily, recent events have made How They See Us vital to not only members of the lgbt community but also to our allies.”

One event McEwen points to happened early last month.

A Michigan Republican leader, Dave Agema, posted what he called “facts about homosexuality” on Facebook.  These “facts” were such claims as gays molest children at a high rate and are infected with numerous amount of diseases.

Many of Agema’s claims had already been cited and refuted in How They See Us.  And the fact that Agema  pulled his claims from an over 20-year-old piece even proved the basic point of McEwen’s booklet – that the same claims made now by such groups as the Family Research Council, the American Family Association, and other so-called pro-family groups are not facts but old lies rooted in junk science or cherry-picked legitimate science.

Another event McEwen points to is how the new support of marriage equality is creating a false dichotomy  of Christians being supposedly victimized for speaking against marriage equality.

Last week, an article on CNN’s webpage asked that question. McEwen felt that while the article attempted to be fair, the writer did not do more to expose the duplicity of religious right and so-called morality groups. McEwen felt the writer should have taken an effort to talk more about the false claims made about the lgbt community; claims which he feels go way beyond expressing a religious belief.

“The danger of the article,” McEwen said, “ is that it gives the inaccurate impression that religious right groups are unfairly victimized simply for expressing religious opposition to marriage equality.   This mindset totally absolves them of the propaganda they have spread about the lgbt community before marriage equality was even an issue.”

Now that his book has enjoyed much success online, McEwen said he is ready to take the next step – getting more hard copies into the hands of people who can use them.  He said his ultimate goal is to create a national conversation on how religious right groups pass along homophobic propaganda under the guise of “Christian expression.”

McEwen is in the middle of creating a hard copy edition of How They See Us which he intends to distribute at pride festivals  free of charge. He said he also intends to mail copies to certain members of Congress, HRC, GLAAD, and also put the word out to many pride centers across the nation that the book is available for their usage free of charge.

“While articles have been written which ask the question of whether or not Christians are being attacked for professing their so-called personal beliefs, there has been very little media attention and virtually NO mainstream articles focusing present-day religious right anti-gay propaganda or how so-called "pro-family" group routinely cherry-pick science to demonize gays. And that’s a real shame,” said McEwen. “My ultimate goal is to change that.”

How They See Us is available for free on McEwen’s blog (to the right) and can also be downloaded from here.

Sleazy Family Research Council video slanders boy scouts

The above video is just one of six, according to Joe Jervis, that the Family Research Council has just put on its youtube site. The videos speak against the possible decision by the Boy Scouts of America to allow gay scouts.

The video seems to be innocuous with its interviews of older Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts. That is except for the ever so slight suggestions of that gay scouts will make sexual advances.

Then at 1:38, it knocks you on your ass with an Eagle Scout from Virginia talking about how he would feel uncomfortable "in a tent, closed off from the world" if his best friend or an older Scout made advances on him.

I don't know what saddens me more - the idea that FRC implies that a gay member of the Boy Scouts would automatically talk about sex or make advances or that the group uses young adults to do its dirty work.

At any rate, the video is sleazy and disgusting. Desperation does leave an odor, doesn't it?

Why gays get angry - when the 'butt sex' Christian meets the discredited researcher

No matter how the religious right (and unfortunately a few members of the media) attempt to turn the momentum of marriage equality into a debate of whether Christians are now the victims of bigotry and lgbts are the perpetrators, it will always come back to the video above to refute that point.

The discredited anti-gay researcher Paul Cameron (a man who believes that gays stuff gerbils up their rectums) is having a discussion with anti-gay activist Dave Daubenmire about how nasty lgbts are. Daubenmire was recently very vocal in his displeasure regarding President Obama speaking to openly gay NBA player Jason Collins, even to the point of talking about gays and "butt sex."

The conversation between Daubenmire and Cameron is sadly hilarious now, but keep in mind that less than two decades ago, Congressional leaders were vouching for Cameron's "research."  Also keep in mind that while groups like the Family Research Council and individuals like Matt Barber of the Liberty Counsel are always whining about being unfairly called bigots, they won't tell you that they freely cite Cameron's work even though they know it to be fraudulent.

Lastly, keep in mind that if you replaced the word "gay" or with "Jewish" or "African-American," this conversation would cause a serious outcry in all circles whether they be Christian or general mainstream.

But since they are talking about lgbts, you only hear crickets. While articles have been written which ask the question of whether or not Christians are being attacked for professing their so-called personal beliefs, there has been very little media attention and virtually NO mainstream articles written on Cameron's influence on present-day religious right anti-gay propaganda or how so-called "pro-family" group routinely cherry-pick science to demonize gays.

That's what pisses us lgbts off. And speaking on a personal level, just the thought of this lack of balance pisses me off to the "highest levels of pissivity.

Just saying . . .

Editor's note - Box Turtle Bulletin has a list of groups and individuals who still cite Cameron's shoddy research.

Bryan Fischer refuses to answer question about 'gay impulses'

Editor's note - Congratulations to the Minnesota House of Representatives who voted for marriage equality!  Now onto the Senate and we will have marriage equality in Minnesota!

In the middle of the Minnesota celebration came news about anti-gay activist Bryan Fischer which may either make you laugh or nauseate you. During a very recent interview with Alan Colmes, Fischer refused to answer whether or not he has ever "experienced any gay impulses:"

Transcript:

Colmes: Have you ever had a gay impulse?
Fischer: (Laughing) Alan, I am not going to talk about that ...
Colmes: I'm just wondering ...
Fischer: Alan, I'm not going to go there. Give it a rest Alan ...
Colmes: It's a simple yes or no question.
Fischer: We're not going to talk about that.
Colmes: Because maybe if you've been able to overcome your gay impulses and you've been successful in doing it, you could be a model for other people you'd like to see act the same way.
Fischer: The focus here, Alan, is that everybody experiences sexual impulses that if they acted on those impulses, it would destroy them.
Colmes: Well, can you give me an example from your own life? What would be some of yours?
Fischer: You've experienced them ...
Colmes: I have?
Fischer: I've experienced them. Every man, every woman has experienced certain sexual impulses that, if they acted on them, if they conducted themselves by yielding to those impulses, it would destroy them. Ask Tiger Woods about that.
Colmes: I don't think I've ever had sexual impulses that would destroy the society or the culture or make me a deviant in some way. I honestly don't think that's ever happened, even in your eyes, so I'm surprised. I wonder what impulses you're talking about. If you've had them, I'd love to know what they are.
Fischer: Well the focus Alan is on sexual conduct, sexual behavior, not on sexual impulse ...
Colmes: So you won't tell me whether you yourself have been able to overcome a gay impulse?
Fischer: Alan, give it a rest.

I will let you judge why it was so difficult for Fischer to give a "yes" or "no" answer. However, if it turns out that Fischer is "family" even in the smallest way, can we somehow give him to the heterosexuals? I mean one gay asshole per generation is enough and that role is already taken, right Matt Drudge?

Why the religious right fears Jason Collins

The religious right continue their attacks on NBA player Jason Collins for coming out of the closet. Yesterday, Matthew Hagee, son of prominent pastor John Hagee gave his opinion as you can see in the above video.

The irony is that the religious right doesn't see what their attacks on Collins reveal about themselves. They claim to wonder why is it such a big deal that Collins came out of the closet. They claim it's not a big deal, that the "liberal" culture is making a big deal of it. Then they proceed to rip Collins from one end to the other for being gay in the first place, thereby proving why it's so important that in-the-closet celebrities come out.

The fact of the matter is that when a successful celebrity such as Collins comes out, it destroys all of the nonsense they spew about homosexuality being an "abomination" or a "dangerous lifestyle" which supposedly brings misery. It exposes all of what they have said about the lgbt community as a lie.

And that's why they are attacking Collins with such vigor. The religious right fears Jason Collins. Every interview he gives tells members of the lgbt community - both young and old - to not believe the lies and not to fall into the trap of negativity spun by the religious right.

Homosexuality compared to a flesh-eating virus: A lesson in 'fake Christian victimology'

Presenting another lesson in fake Christian victimology thanks to  Pastors Kevin Swanson and Dave Buehner at Generations Radio via Right Wing Watch:

Transcript:

Buehner: Women don’t trust men, women raise sons, sons don’t trust men, but there’s a hole in their heart, looking for a man, looking for the love of men, they’re not getting the love of their father, they’re going to go seek it out in other men, i.e. male homosexuality. A woman does not have a trust in a man, she didn’t see a loving relationship with a man, she’s been taught that husbands are buffoons and that at best get yourself a man who is a good roller coaster ride for the night, maybe try and get a few bucks off of him doing the amateur prostitution thing but move on, keep your independence from the family and from the man and ergo why not just go ahead into lesbianism.

Now homosexuality and lesbians start building on each other and snowballing. I believe that we are at the knee of the curve here, in other words, the rate of homosexuality in society has been fairly low, it’s been in the low one percent, two percent, we’ve always had some but it’s been low, I think it’s going to skyrocket in the next decade.

Swanson: It certainly does have a good sales program, the brochures are as glossy as they can possibly be, they are being sold in public schools all over America and it’s very possible this thing can go hyperbolic in the next couple of five to ten years, I wouldn’t be surprised at all, especially with the breakdown of the family, and we have two to three to four times more kids raised outside of a nuclear family as they were even in the last generation twenty years ago. We’re continuing to see a breakdown and what a lot of our leaders don’t want to recognize is that we’ve got a humongous problem on our hands.

It’s not like this car’s been through an accident and has got a few nicks on the bumper; the steering wheel is in the trunk, the steering wheel is in the trunk, this thing has been accordioned all the way from the hood into the trunk and we’ve got a major civilization accident on our hands and it’s going to take something really serious, something radical in order to repair this. It is probably going to have to be repentance, that is we’re going to have to repent of a lot of things and a lot of fundamental problems.

The body itself is shot through with this disease and it is occasionally busting through in these sores called homosexuality and these sores seem to be spreading all the time, especially over the last fifteen to twenty years. What guys like Paul Ryan are doing, what the politicians are doing with their approval of civil unions and homosexual marriage is that they are taking these sores and they are carving happy faces into them, they are calling this sore ‘gay’ and they are carving happy faces into them, they are making it appear to be a wonderful, wonderful thing that we have these sores breaking out and this is precisely what’s happening with our church leaders and civil leaders that are constantly wanting to endorse homosexual marriage. The fact that you have Mike Horton from the White Horse Inn endorsing civil unions as a possible way in which we can love our neighbor is again an ecclesiastical leader of the Reformed stripe saying this is cool, put the sore into a smiley face, it is okay, we are going to put the stamp approval of the civil magistrate on this thing, and the ecclesiastical leaders and the civil leaders are doing the same thing with it because they will not acknowledge that we are under the judgment of Almighty God.

Buehner: Putting the smiley face is part of the picture, they are trying to make it look happy, make it look fun, call it gay, but what they are also doing is they are spreading it. They are taking this disease that’s ravaging the body, it’s more like that nasty flesh eating virus and they are spreading it all over the body, they are spreading the virus all around because it’s so good, it’s a nice, happy virus, you want this flesh eating virus on your neck, you want it on your check, you want it on your back, you want it on your legs. They are doing everything they can by not only giving it a warrant it doesn’t deserve from Scripture but they’re also funding it, they’re also propelling it. This is horrible; this is the shepherds leading the sheep to death.

Let's recap - comparing homosexuality to a flesh eating virus? Perfectly okay because these men are "merely expressing their Christian faith." Gays complaining about homosexuality being compared to a flesh eating virus? Stop the presses! There is anti-Christian persecution and bigotry going on!

Any questions?

'Spotlighting and combating 'fake Christian victimology' used against the lgbt community

Editor's note - today's news briefs features a special look on something that we will unfortunately being hearing more about - fake Christian victimology.

When Christians become a 'hated minority' - IN SPITE OF the title, this is a rather good article which looks at both sides of the debate. I particularly liked how the author interviewed the Southern Poverty Law Center's Mark Potok. HOWEVER, I also feel the author made the same mistake others make when they approach the subject of fake Christian victimology. He didn't challenge religious right figures such as Peter Sprigg on the hateful language or the claims they make against the lgbt community. In this debate about fake Christian victimology, there needs to be a detailed look at the junk science spouted by the religious right about the lgbt community and the researcher complaints about how their work is constantly distorted by the religious right.

Reach America's High School Anti-Christian Bullying Video Calls For An 'Army' To Save America's Souls - because if there isn't a detailed look, the religious right gets away with junk like this.

Rick Perry, Fox News and Religious Right Activists Jump on Fabricated Case of Christian Persecution - And people like Fox News' Todd Starnes can create false stories of anti-Christian persecution.

Peter Sprigg And The Values Victim Caucus - When fake Christian victimology is debated, voices like Wayne Besen's need to be heard.

Bryan Fischer: Inclusive immigration reform would be 'importing' 'sexual dysfunction'- Comments like this need to be brought to the forefront.

How They See Us: Unmasking the Religious Right War on Gay America - Because what we are talking about here isn't anti-Christian persecution but a certain segment of the population not being honest about their claims and attacks on the lgbt community, something which is decades old.

Religious right portrays Jason Collins as threatening black man who has 'butt sex'

Apparently the religious right are upset to the point of insane distraction by the fact that NBA player Jason Collins came out of the closet. While the lgbt community, while still celebrating Collins' decision to be open about his life, have pretty much moved to other matters, the religious right continue to castigate Collins. The following are just a few examples:

There is this graphic which portrays Collins as a threatening black man:

Then there are several comments via several religious right figures:

Matt Barber of the Liberty Counsel:

But, lest you worry about Jason Collins’ incredible act of courage going otherwise unlauded by this president and his mainstream media, I shall hasten to comfort you. For Mr. Obama also heaped spoonfuls of sparkly-sweet sugar upon Jason’s hate-tattered brow at a frenzied news conference. CBS News describes it thusly: “President Obama told reporters he ‘couldn’t be prouder’ of NBA player Jason Collins, who one day earlier announced he was gay. Mr. Obama said Collins is ‘a role model’ to be able to say, ‘I’m still 7-foot-tall and can bang with Shaq, and deliver a hard foul.’” Um, right, exactly. If we can’t be proud of sodomy, what can we be proud of?

Linda Harvey of Mission America:

As it turns out, [Jason] Collins is actually an ex-heterosexual. Since he had a relationship with a woman, his ex-fiancĂ©e, who told reporters she had no idea about this other side of him. Some might say that this is bisexuality but it really reveals an anything-goes sexual behavior that once again is an evidence of choice, not something inborn. Many in our politically correct media will of course refuse to see this and connect the dots. Let me refer to a couple of Christian commentators who had insights on the Jason Collins situation. Steve Nobel of Called2Action Ministries sent out an e-newsletter with his headline, “Why is this news and why did the President of the United States call him?” Noble went on to say, “I’m so tired of ‘gay this’ and ‘gay that,’ aren’t you?” Yes Steve, you’re not alone in thinking we’ve heard enough deceit about a sinful, high-risk behavior. It’s not like race, no one is born this way, and Jason Collins should feel shame and a desire to change, not pride.

But the blue ribbon has to go to anti-gay activist Dave Daubenmire who freaks out over President Obama calling a man who supposedly participates in "butt sex:"

So while America celebrates the fact that pro-athlete had the courage to come out of the closet thus be a role model to the millions of adults and children who are struggling to be able to accept their God-given sexual orientation, the religious right simply sees a threatening black man who has "butt sex."

NOM had better recognize that its supporters are going too far

The following comment was left on a recent post of the National Organization for Marriage's blog by a longtime NOM blog commentator and supporter Barb Chamberlan (comment 10):

It's always fascinating to Google the names of children in the grips of same-sex couples. You'll be surprised at how much information there is about them, despite their guardians' attempts to keep it a secret. You might even find the names of their real parents. Try it sometime. Of course, the opposition is too afraid to do so.

I don't know what Chamberlan's reasoning for posting that mess but I would say that NOM had better get a hold of its supporters.

Let's not even imply in the least that "seeking information" on children in same-sex households for whatever purpose is a decent or good thing. It's always fun to point out whenever NOM's phony mask of respectability slips off, but what Chamberlan seems to be implying here is downright spooky.

Marriage equality will come to Delaware!

Beating back what I can only describe as a "wall of crazy," marriage equality supporters in Delaware succeeded in making that state the 11th to legalize gay marriage:

The Delaware Senate passed a marriage equality bill Tuesday on a 12-9 vote, following the House's passage of the bill in late April.

Speaking in favor of the bill before the vote, Sen. Bryan Townsend said, "I hope we begin to treat as equals all those who wish to announce their love and commitment to the world."

Gov. Jack Markell will sign the bill, making Delaware the 11th state to recognize same-sex couples' marriage rights. The bill will go into effect on July 1, and all civil unions not converted to marriages or dissolved by July 1, 2014, will be automatically converted into marriages.

During the course of the afternoon, Sen. Karen Peterson came out publicly to her colleagues as a lesbian, discussing what the bill would do for her and her longtime partner.

Senator David P. Sokola, the bill's lead sponsor in the Senate, led debate for the supporters, including calling on Equality Delaware's leader, Mark Purpura. Purpura went through the bill, section by section, to explain its purposes.

From what I read on twitter, opponents of marriage equality seemed to employ a strategy of throwing mud on the wall and going with what stuck. At times,  their testimony seemed like a bad sketch from Monty Python as priests, pastors, religious right spokespeople, and legislators invoked portents of doom, spun inaccurate tales of anti-Christian discrimination, and even took to reading facebook comments.

But for the life of me, I don't know where Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor fit in it all because they even called her name.

It doesn't matter because the bill has passed and will most likely be signed today.

Anti-marriage equality forces in France stoops to racist images

This poster, announcing the latest anti-marriage equality march in France, is now the subject of a HUGE racial controversy.  According to Euronews:

The poster, designed by an anti-same sex marriage activist, depicts France’s Minister of Justice Christiane Taubira, who is black, as a raging gorilla/King Kong, overwhelmed by a flow of demonstrators from the “Manif Pour Tous,” the main anti-same sex organization. The slogan is a play on words: “manif monstre” can mean ‘giant demo.’

The picture, posted on Monday night, was retweeted and commented massively by anti-gay rights activists and by both outraged anti- and pro-same sex marriage activists.

. . .  On Tuesday morning, the owner of the Twitter account where the picture was initially posted deleted it, before explaining: “I confirm that I acted on my own, without racist intention. Sorry if it has hurt. I withdraw the picture but it is a misunderstanding. I used an already existing monster picture.” To make further amends, he then retweeted a message from an official anti-same-sex marriage organisation stating “The only poster for the May 26 demo is this one.”

. . .  French Guiana-born Christiane Taubira is, as François Hollande’s Minister of Justice, the main proponent of the bill legalising same-sex marriage. She has been the target of a large majority of the slogans and banners from anti-same sex marriage demonstrators.

I wonder will NOM comment on this latest development.

NOM stoops to nasty twitter attack on same-sex families, marriage equality

How low can the National Organization for Marriage go in attacking marriage equality and same-sex families? Apparently this low via Thomas Peters, its communications director.

Marriage equality does not deprive children of anything. Also, same-sex families give children a home with love. Peters' question is a straw man argument based upon the fallacy that the only family unit which matters or exists is the mother/father dynamic.

It's a nasty question which implies that gays are harming children. However, a benefit is that yet again the mask of respectability which NOM tries to front is slipping off.

Jeremy Hooper has already given an excellent answer to this ridiculous question. However, if you feel so inclined, by all means use the hashtag and give your own answer. Remember though that any nasty or profanity-laced answer will be used by NOM against us.

Last night, the Family Research Council held a telecast called "Stand With Scouts" designed to exploit fears about gays being allowed in the Scouts. I didn't watch but, thanks to Jeremy Hooper, we have a snippet of the event. And it gives an indication as to how low FRC and its supporters stoop to demonize the lgbt community. Nauseating as hell.
